I believe we have had some years ago a similar problem with I believe pigeon
droppings. Out in Narragansett Bay just north of the Jamestown Bridge is an
abandoned lighthouse on bunch of rocks. It is basically open to the elements
and pigeons use it to roost and mate. Before it was completely opened a bunch
of kids broke in and there was great fear that they would develop disease
from the droppings.
There are nasty bugs carried by pigeons (a fungus called aspergillus comes to
mind), but mostly are not a problem to normal people unless they are just
totally overcome by vast clouds of powdered droppings. People with immune
compromise, like cancer, leukemias, myelomas, organ transplants on
immunosupprssive meds, people with autoimmune disease or severe arthritis on
drugs like prednisone, or HIV are the ones to worry about exposure to fungi.
Most of the rest of us just sorta deal with it with our normal immune systems.
Still, I don't think I'd spend a lot of time in a roon full of pigeon shit,
no offense <G>.
