have), but I have never been impressed by form letters that were read aloud at
Court's of Honor (I've been to lots), and some of the messages on Scouts-L
to be flagrant begging for email versions of same.
I dunno, but my kid felt the same way, and so is probably the only Scout in
six counties who doesn't have a letter from the President, the Senators, the
Selectmen, the astronaut, the movie star, and the dogcatcher gathering dust
somewhere. I know some people say that "He'll look back in them fondly when
he's old," or, "His kids (or his grandkids) will be so impressed," but I
kinda don't think so. A form letter is a form letter, and I would hope that
my grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, would still be able to recognize
one when they see one.
The one he'll be pleased to find again, and that his kids should be impressed
by, is the one from the Army Corps of Engineers telling how because of his
work on erosion control and a new stairway, one of their areas is now
accessible to more people and they could safely open it up to a nighttime
program too. That's real, that's specific, and that's local (as all politics
are, according to the late Tip O'Neill).
