I used to be that guy! In fact, if it hadn't come from somebody I
didn't know, I'd accuse you all of talkin'' about me! But, Wood Badge
cured me of such ills. I have a couple of things to add.
There were a couple of events that I told the PLC we "needed to
participate in" and they agreed that it would be good for the troop to
"show up for". We need to support our District at spring Camporee and
we need to support our council at Scout-O-Rama. Everything else, the PLC
could opt out of. With these terms, the PLC had full reign over what we
did and didn't do. I was always a big supporter of our local council's
summer camp, but one year, the PLC wanted to go to South Dakota for
summer camp. The SM was partially right in forcing the PLC to go to this
one particular camp-o-ree, but he did do it in the wrong manner. Would
all of you SM's out there let the PLC vote not to attend the spring
camp-o-ree where the Order of the Arrow call out was being performed? Or
would you "encourage" them to attend?
and a good old fox, too.
