Converting Vertical Applications from Anything to Anything
1. There is no interface.
2. It is highly unlikely that there is, or ever will be,
commercial software available to convert a specialty
(Vertical) software program like "Scout Track" from MacOS to
PalmOS or Windows CE or Linux or Wintel or anything else.
It is highly unlikely that there is even a "hack" available
to perform the conversion.
The Scout Track developer and the other 4 Mac users don't
constitute a large enough market base :-)
So, what to do? what to do?
Well, since the Scout Track stuff is a Mac hypercard
application, you'd first have to figure how to export the
data you were interested in maintaining to a delimited flat
file. CSV would be nice.
You could then import the delimited flat file into one of
the shareware/commercial databases available for the Palm.
Now, how to "hot-sync' the updates from the Mac to the
Palm...hmmmm. The easiest route is to choose a Palm
database that has a corresponding desktop application since
these applications, in general, provide a conduit for
A Windows CE solution would be correspondingly obtuse.
Anything can be made more complex or time consuming with the
proper computing appliance. I used to be able to pay my
bills every month in about 20 minutes by writing checks.
Then I got "Quicken". Now paying the monthly bills takes 3
