My scoutmaster was always referred to by his first name- Charlie. My father
was a professor from MIT and an assistant scoutmaster originally from
Austin, Texas. He was called by his nickname which was Festus. Another
regular ASM was called by his first name of Fred. Parents and less familiar
adults were called by Mr. and Mrs.
As scoutmaster, I am called by my first name. All other leaders and parents
are usually called Mr. or Mrs. Another troop I work with used Mr. or Mrs.
and their first name, like Mr. Gene. All of these work. I am not sure there
needs to be a policy. Let each adult decide what he is comfortable with.
All our adults refer to each other by first names, but I use Mr. or Mrs. in
front of the scouts unless they request a change.
