A question has filtered around our committee about the New Scout
We have used this method of welcoming in new Scouts since we started
rebuilding our troop 5 years ago. The new Scouts would come up from
Webelos and were mostly from the same den there. They would form a New
Scout Patrol. According to Scouting literature once a Scout reaches
First Class or the seventh grade he is moved to another patrol. Because
we had a small troop we had no patrols to progress them to. Plus
because they were all friends from Webelos they liked to stay the same
patrol. What is happening now is some of the older Scouts are beginning
to leave or have become part of our Venture Patrol or are Junior leaders
that aren't a part of a patrol any more and we have patrols with only
three or four boys in them.
My question is , how many other troops still use the New Scout Patrol
Method out there and how do you filter them in with the older Scout
patrols. Or if you don't use that method, what do you do?
Thanks in advance for all your replies.
