The only problem I see with this is that it "might" mess up computerized record keeping. Most software programs are set up for "only 4" required badges for star, and 2 electives. Life is similar. I have not tried any of the programs at this time to see if you could credit 6 required badges for star.
All that being said, this is an adult problem for adult leaders to work out, while the scout enjoys his new rank. Give it to him, and work out the record keeping details later!

Yes. Each time you look and see if he at least the minimum specified in
Star: at least 6 total, at least 4 from "the current required list"
Life: at least 11 total, and at least 7 from "the current required list"
Eagle: at least 21 total, and the proper 12 of the required badges (i.e.
one each from the two where options are listed).
That's ALL you look at.
