Approved Council or District sponsored Webelos
Resident Camp, as opposed to a Webelos overnighter,
does not require a 1:1 parent/scout ratio. Councils
set camping leadership standards per national
guidelines. Here it is a minimum of two deep
leadership, at least one whom is over 21, both
registered with BSA, for every 6 Webelos Scouts.
We send our Webelos to the 4 day and 3 night Webelos
resident camp with the leaders. Any parents who want
to camp out with the den(s) can come along. We don't
include an ASM. We are not a feeder pack...our
graduates go to many different troops, so which ASM
would even go would be one reason not to do so for us.
there are more than 15 troops in our home town.
Another reason is that our Council Sponsored Webelos
Resident camp, of which there are 6 available sessions
each June, has its focus on helping earn Webelos
activity pins and on outdoor fun, not on producing
ready made Boy Scouts in advance of when the boys are
eligible to become Boy Scouts.
Webelos is a transition period.... from parent as
Akela to other adults as Akela, from working toward
skills with activity pin counselors instead of mom and
dad for advancement purposes. Basic introductory Boy
Scout information is taught during the transition,
such as simple knots, Oath, Law, Promise and some
But Webelos is no more Pre-Tenderfoot class than it is
Bears II or Bears III. It is a stand alone program
that has, in my view, complementary elements from both
Cubs and Boy Scouts.
