Excellent summary. If we look at Webelos as the end of the road in Cub
Scouts, too many families can consider that they have "finished" the program
Hopefully, Webelos programs emphasizing Boy Scouts as role models encourage
parents and scouts to continue in the program. Scoutmasters and troop
committees who take an active role in planning and promoting the transition
from Cub Scout to Boy Scout should see an increase in members. As a leader
with Cub Scout tendencies, I start to become a little fuzzy on the Boy Scout
end of things. I welcome the scoutmaster's help and the troops help with
campouts, learning the scout law, etc. The Webelos love working with the
My sons both looked forward to the day they could go camping without MOM.
Youngest goes next month for the first one (troop/Webelos joint campout).
(Dad does the Boy Scout camping in this family--Mom the Cub Scout camping.
It has just been a way to divvy up responsibilities in our household. We
each do what we're best at and what we're comfortable with. Dad does
dishes, Mom does cooking, and so on.....)
