scouts-l Mail Archive for March of 2000: Myth or Fact: MB Question

I have heard that there is a limit on the number of merit badges an
individual counselor can counsel with a scout. I have heard the number "6"
thrown around, but no one can give me a good reference.
I have looked in: advancement committee policies and procedures #33088b as
well as the MB counselor supplemental sheet and can find no reference to
this, only statements about a counselor being 'qaulified' to counsel the
badge, not a cap on how many he/she can do.
I have a unit advancement chair who believes this limit as fact and I would
like to see it in writing somewhere before I buy it.
Secondly, assuming there IS a cap, what should happen if a scout has more
MB's by one counselor than this "cap" allows? What procedures should be in
place to prevent it from happening?
Finally, again assuming there IS a cap, is there an exemption for summer
camps? I see this as a problem because one director may be ultimately
responsible for and signing off for a number of badges, especially if the
troop attends the same camp for several years and the director is retained
for multiple years.
Also, someone posted a 20 question "quiz" about merit badge counseling a
couple weeks back. Were the answers ever posted? If so could someone
re-send them to me cuz I mustuv missed them somewhere in the whole ZT debate
Thanks in advance,
