I don't understand the continuing animus I see in this mail group toward
scouts who happen to make Eagle at an Early age. As I look at my son's
peers there were several who made Eagle at 13. They are all 17 and 18 now
and have continued to be active in scouting ever since they made Eagle.
They have been a more positive example to the younger scouts than the guys
who piddled around, were occasionally involved, and didn't really put in
serious Eagle work until they were 17.5.
For different guys the light of realization comes on at different
ages. Some at 13 , some at 17, and some never leave the dark. All we have
to do is look at our own lives and note when we saw the light.
It is much like school work or merit badge work. Some guys do A+ work and
others do C- work. But it all counts. Lets not belittle those guys who
are able to run ahead of the herd. To lead the pack is a lot harder than
just wandering along with the average crowd.
