scouts-l Mail Archive for March of 2000: An appology and a concern

Earlier today (3/23/2000) I made a "graveous error" and posted what I
thought was a legitimate concern to the list. I recieved the message from
my younger brother who is completing 15 years in the Navy (also and Eagle
scout). I did not take the time to do a thorough investigation of the
validity of the concern. My intention was only to provide information to
the members of the list.
I appologize for not having the time and opportunity to maintain an
exhaustive knowledge base regarding "urban legends." I appologize for
having assumed that members of a scouting-based discussion list would
benefit from warnings or concerns forwarded from what would seem to be
I commend the numerous individuals who informed me of my error privately.
Because I subscribe to this list in the digest mode, I will not have the
opportunity to realize the many others who will also inform me of my error.
I only wish that I too had the time and opportunity to monitor discussion
lists for errors.
I freely admit to not having (obviously) sufficient knowledge of internet
matters to filter out "legends". However, I do not appreciate messages
that are condescending in tone and content. My credentials, both in and out
of Scouting, speak for themselves.
We are all (presumedly) equals on this discussion list with an interest in
providing the best environment for the youth in our charge to develop into
productive citizens of high moral character.
