Gee, flying with a backpack is far more complicated a thing than I
realized. Naive me--last time I flew with a backpack, I merely put
everything into my pack, made sure I didn't have any food in it, or fuel in
the Svea, and checked it. It was put into a tough, clear plastic bag by
the gate personnel, but other than that it went through just like any other
piece of luggage. Once I had to pick it up at a separate place from the
rest of the baggage on the plane. But this wasn't a hassle--it wasn't like
I had to go to a different terminal or anything.
Of course, in Denver I bought food and a small can of coleman fuel before
heading out for a week-long climbing trip which I thoroughly enjoyed
(bagging 7 14'ers in the process).
I think sometimes we overcomplicate things....
