Transporting packs on airplanes seems to be of perpetual interest. The
April issue of Backpacker magazine has a short article (p. 112).
Basically they recommend emptying the pack, putting pack & contents into a
tough duffle bag. Use the sleeping bag, pad, clothing, & other soft stuff
as padding around the sides. Double bag anything that might burst, break,
or ooze from pressure changes.
