Golly guys, I'm really impressed with your ability to attempt to regiment
every word in the whole process so that there is absolutely no allowance
for thinking or judgement. By the way, how do you handle the scoutmaster
approval process when:
1. the boy goes to summer camp.
2. Goes to summer camp with another unit.
3. Goes to a merit badge 'fair'.
4. Goes to an out of council camp with another unit.
5. Goes to summer camp and the scoutmaster is not with the unit.
6. The Scoutmaster is the Merit Badge counselor and boys father.
I know I am being sarcastic but the point is that some folks get so wrapped
up in the tiddles and jots that their contorted and convoluted definitions
and interpretations of every nuance of every word would put a medieval
theologian or American lawyer to shame. It seems that in many cases the
application of 'regulations' in scouting is applied with what approaches a
religious fervor. Just because we consider Lord Baden-Powell as the
founder of Scouting, remember that this Lord did not create a
religion. Don't let the play of the game become the end in itself. It was
only meant to be a means.
While you guys are going into excruciating pains and expending endless
hours to prove you are right I think I will go take the boys on a hike to
see the blooming of spring. I leave it to you to decide which effort will
benefit the boys more.
