Boy, this is a tough one. Parents who are involved in the lives of their
children will know what's going on. The other parents are too "busy" for
their children and seem to consider the Scoutmaster to be little more than a
baby-sitter. These people will never get the idea that a Scout unit schedules
events no matter what you do. If you mail flyers to certain parents, they'll
just get tossed with the junk mail.
In addition to your efforts, I'd suggest posting the calendar in a public
area of your meeting place. Try handing our calendars at events where parents
attend such as courts of honor and parent's nights. Getting the parents to
attend committee meetings might help, but the people who complain about not
knowing what's going on are likely too "busy" to attend.
Boy, I hate being cynical.
