I agree with Bev Esson on this one. Our Packs top winner is a second year
Webelos, has never won in his previous attempts over the first four years in
cubbies, and now you want to leave him out of the Dist. or Council
Our District doesn't have a PWD anymore, but when it did it was open to
all cubbies in the district, regardless of finish in their home pack. The
Council on the other hand does have a competition and it is open only to
three Designees from each pack, with the recommendation that preference be
given to the top three finishers at the pack level. The competitors are
certified by the Cubmaster of each pack and we let them race no matter what
color epaulets they have on their uniform in April at the Council Race. If
they won their pack they can race at the Council race.
I can speak with some authority on this since for our council I am in
charge of this competition.
My son has mentioned that his Troop might hold its own race since the
strip above their right pocket says BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA. I do support the
idea that the Big boys should make this a parental hands off affair.
At our pack race we encourage the parents to build their own cars to race
against siblings and each other, I always build a new car every year just
show the parents that it's not that hard to come up with ideas. I also tell
the boys that I am just the biggest kid in the pack, but I don't compete with
them, the kids that is.
