At our Scout roundtable held last night, one of the SM's said he had heard that there would be a new requirement soon before an adult could take scouts camping. Of course, our DE had not heard this new rule, he is new and hasn't gone to any training classes yet.
It was said that an adult leader would have to have a certificate that they had passed the Red Cross first aid and CPR classes. I know that somebody must have CP in your troop for quality unit, but now we have to have FA and CPR, too. Is this correct or has anybody heard this. We always have a course for the staff at our summer camps, but now we are told that a troop MUST have somebody certified just to go camping?
It sounds lake a good thing at first, don't get me wrong. As a leader, I would like to know that I could maybe give CPR or do minor first aid on a campout when needed. To require that you pay the Red Cross $35 dollars for the CPR and FA class every two to three years to stay certified may be too much for smaller troops. Will I have to pay or will my troop pick up the fee? I have been certified and I will keep it current as before, but now the rule is I have to do this.
Does anybody know about this and the date it goes into effect?
