I have subscribed to Scouts-L in the past but have been away for almost
a year. I'm happy to be back!
Questions that I have had in the past have always been answered with the
help of everyone here, so I hope you can help me with these.
First, I am the Crew Advisor for a group of my older Scouts this summer
for a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. One of our Scouts is allergic to
all corn products. We know we have to bring backpacking food for him
from home but we don't know where to by such items that don't have corn
products (corn syrup, corn meal, etc.) in them. If any of you have been
through this situation before and can offer some help it would be
greatly appreciated as we are set to depart June 26, 2000. You can
either e-mail me directly at the address below or send it through
Scouts-L as I am sure there are other people out there under the same
Second, our troop has a slight problem in the communication area.
Parents are always complaining that they don't know about upcoming
events and activities.
The PLC makes their phone calls, we have a web site with the calendar of
events, we have handed out flyers and we make announcements at the end
of each troop meeting. To no avail it seems the message still does not
reach the parents.
Any and all ideas, suggestions and anything that other units have used
will be of great help. All suggestions will be brought in front of our
committee for consideration.
Again, thanks for all your help in the past and for all your help in the
Chris Stone :-)
