There are *two* Chaplain Aides, Curt.
An ADULT Chaplain Aide is a layperson whom may conduct services and offer
prayer and religious guidance under the direction or supervision of a
religious leader, whether or not the religious leader is registered as a
Chaplain or not. He or she should be coached by a Chaplain or other
religious leader(s) representing the youth and adult membership of the unit.
A unit may have an unlimited number of Chaplain Aides (Adult). Each
Chaplain Aide is registered as such with that unit. Chaplain Aides (Adult)
may be registered with a Cub Scout Pack, Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout
Team, Venturing Crew, or Sea Scout Ship.
A YOUTH Chaplain Aide is appointed by the Troop's Senior Patrol Leader or
Team Captain and serves in a similar manner as the adult Chaplain Aide, with
the addition of being able to support and promote the religious awards
program with the youth of the unit. They serve typically for between six and
nine months as all other Troop or Team officers serve.
A unit may have only ONE Chaplain Aide (Youth), and this person should
strive to represent ALL religions represented within the unit. The adult
"coach" of this youth may either be the Chaplain Aide (Adult), the Chaplain,
or another religious leader.

True. In the case of a "similar adult", that person is the layperson
described and registered under the role of "Chaplain Aide (Adult).
Hope that helps out, Curt!
