Our troop has planned their program for our May Scout-a-Rama. To celebrate
the BSA 90th anniversary, they want to have a camp and skills from the
past. They came up with this idea on their own. We are bringing out 40
year old canvas tents, finding some old uniforms and doing open fire
cooking (on a steel table--LNT is not going out the window). I did
convince them to try including semaphore as part of the former skills.
As I was never a boy scout myself, I am going to be as green as the scouts
and learning this for the first time. I plan on making up two large boards
one for each person sending and receiving.
Now that I am looking at books, I see that there are various positions for
each flag, some where the diamond colors get turned backward. I find this
strange. How do you see the color patterns with limp fabric flags. Is it
just from keeping the flags moving, or are the flags stiff fabric?
There has to be at least one of you who have done this before. Any tips or
suggestions? Maybe there is WWII movie where we can see this in action. I
am open to all help. Thanks in advance for bailing me out.
