After reading Terry Slade's comments on receiving the Silver Beaver, I will
add my comments on the secrecy in receiving the Silver Beaver.
I will be receiving the Silver Beaver next Saturday night, so you know that
it will not be a surprise. To me this is the way that it should be
done. It takes the surprise element out at the Council Recognition Dinner
but the surprise is still there when the Silver Beaver committee contacts
you. The pictures of the Silver Beaver recipients was in the March Council
newsletter and the press release to local newspapers has been in the local
Members of my family, troop and personal friends that normally would not be
at the dinner will be there to share in the special recognition. It would
have taken a lot of trickery on my wife's part to get the people there to
share in this great moment and then it really wouldn't have been that much
of a surprise as I would have known what was up when I saw family and
friends there that wouldn't have normally been there.
The main reason that the Council changed this several years ago was because
they had a couple recipients that were not going to be there because of
other plans. This way they were able to change their plans and still be there.
