Lots of talk about program, activities, advancement, timing of crossing
over. Let's also remember that a safe atmosphere where the boys have fun is
what draws them and keeps them. I find that the desire to make friends,
associate with accessible caring older boys and men, and, above all, the
chance to be unconditionally accepted, goes a long way.
Our kids lives are filled with unbelievable social pressures that drive them
apart and promote the negative. Scouting is that rare place where putting
on a uniform and showing up gains them automatic lifetime friends and older
boys and men who are there for them. Be there for your boys, and they will
be there for you and stay.
