You might have lost money on Scouting magazine. But I would hate to think
you react the same way when a boy fails. Failure is part of life. A person
learns from failures and grows from them. Stepping on a failure does not
raise you any higher in anyone's eyes.
Lincoln was a failure many times over. He was still a success in the eyes
of most people.
My money is gone, I may not venture again. Unless it is proved otherwise, I
will not step on anyone who is down. More importantly, I will never allow a
kid to see me do this, no teach a kid to do this.
If a fisherman baits his hook with the kind of food that he likes, he will
not catch many, certainly not the shy, game kind of fish. He therefore uses
as bait the kind of food that the fish likes. Lord Baden-Powell
