I would like to hear opinions on the *best* time for a crossover ceremony.
Specifically, should the pack do a ceremony now for the webelos II boys,
and then again in May for the rest of the pack to advance, or should the
pack just do one ceremony in May even though the boys will all join a troop
Yes, this does seem to be a continuance of an earlier thread that really
brought a lot of opinions forward, which can be good. Our Pack hosts our
Blue & Gold in February which is where our Webelos II get their Arrow of
Light. I have heard a lot of Packs say the award the AOL earlier and if our
Scouts get it earlier, we will award it earlier. We seem to have a lot of
last minute rushing to get some of the boys qualified before the ceremony
(yes, the night before). In March, we have a big campout and invite all the
Troops that are receiving boys into their Troops to camp with us and
participate in the Crossover Ceremony. It is a Cub Scout ceremony to cross
these boys over to Boy Scouts, not a Boy Scout Ceremony. IMHO, I don't feel
some of these boys are ready much earlier than that to Crossover to a boy
led program. Sorry everyone, a 5th grader is only so mature. Most of these
boys have been visiting Troops since November/December and have gone to
several troop meetings, so they are getting exposure.
I see the cross over to Boys Scouting as different from a graduation
ceremony to the next level in Cub Scouting, so there is no problem having
two different ceremonies.
