The use of tools that fit the job is a good thing. But
there is a certain eletism in assuming that computer based
communication is universally available. I may have 5 email
addresses; you may have a job which provides universal
access, but there are still a huge number of folks who are
simply not in the network.
If your unit never has a family with no home connection and
/or parent - scouters who work in non-access jobs (cf
waitresses, drivers of all kinds and factory workers) then
you can assume universal access. On the other hand, whenI
was on commissioner staff I had a troop with not one at
home father, no one other than the clergyperson sponsor
equiped with a cellphone and noone with e-mail.
