SEA SCOUTS IN NEW ZEALAND FOR AMERICA'S CUP RACE
NEW ZEALAND / SAN DIEGO -- Katie Hagen of Sea Scout Ship 1 in New
Orleans and Ornel Cotera of Ship 10 in Miami have been selected for an
expenses-paid trip to New Zealand to assist the America's Cup race
Katie and Ornel are both SEAL graduates and Quartermaster Sea Scouts.
Both finished at the top of their SEAL classes and are exceptional Sea
Scouts. They are accompanied by National SEAL Training Co-ordinator Jim
Elroy and Sea Scout National Commodore Jimmie Homburg.
The two Sea Scouts are working as correspondents from the Race and are
members of the shore crew detail. They are attending the race as members
of a US Sailing entry.
Regular reports from the Sea Scout correspondents will be available on
the Boy Scouts of America web site and Sea Scouts, B.S.A. web site.
Sea Scouting is a co-educational program offered to young adults between
the ages of 14 and 21. Sea Scouting is organized to promote better
citizenship and to improve members' boating skills and knowledge through
instruction and practice in water safety, boating skills, outdoor,
social, and service experiences, and knowledge of our maritime heritage.

Sea Scout Advanced Leadership (SEAL) training is a course designed to
develop leadership skills in young adults. This leadership skills
course, which utilizes an at-sea experience as a laboratory, is intended
to teach and apply leadership skills. Several SEAL training courses are
