That sounds very much like what happened to my son on his '95 trip.
The father/son team was not experienced at backpacking. My son questioned
the safety of some of the decisions that were being made, and felt that
there was favoritism and and a lack maturity on the part of the father.
Tempers flared and apparently a very ugly situation developed. I have been
reluctant since then to send anyone out on a trek with an adult unless I
know the adult leader and have a comfort level with his maturity and
leadership skills. Teenagers, by definition, are going through hormonal and
emotional changes in their lives. Sometimes they are even a little
