*heheheeheee* I know how you feel, Tom...

Your Council may have a special award, but the BSA's national award for
volunteers working within urban areas is named after a national civil-rights
and Urban League President for many years...it's called the Young Award, or
more precisely, the Whitney Young, Jr. Urban Scouting Award.
The Award consists of a plaque, certificate and for individuals, a lapel pin
and square knot. Both organizations and individuals may receive the award.
Some Councils, rather than to purchase the $75 plaque, opt to purchase
something lessor or something which is more "universal" than the image of
Young on a plaque to present.
One does not have to be in a "urban Council" to receive the award...just
work with Urban youth or within the programs of Scouting as it addresses
needs in the urban/innercity communities. Nor is it a "black/minority only
award", noting that the majority of the receipients are white and the most
of the corporations were not minority-owned...but there's some of that too.
The "requirement" is only to work within Urban (or Rural!) Scouting for a
period of time and have made inroads into spreading the Scouting program
into those communities. Most of the receipients have done so for between
five and ten years.
Tom and I do agree, however:
