scouts-l Mail Archive for February of 2000: SPL who won't camp, New Development
Sat Feb 19 2000 - 09:27:11 CST
The SPL has e-mailed me and proposed that he'll campout
on four of the next six campouts if I can call off the PLC from impeaching
him. He has also said that he'll resign if he doesn't make the four
campouts. I sort of like this idea, but will it set the troop back in my
attempt at making it a Boy-Led troop? Maybe I should campaign in the SPL's
behalf, and then let the PLC decide? Point out that their actions were
effective in bringing about the desired behavior change.
It is not your place to campaign on anyone's behalf. Fact is, though, that if
thr PLC wants to elect someone else as SPL they are within their rights to
call a troop election and do so.
I think it might further your youth-led plans if you go back to him and say
something like, "Present this to the PLC and see what they think." Then if
they come up with something totally awful, like drawing and quartering and
cutting off his insignia on the way out the door <G> you can step in,
exercise your role as developer of leadership and citizenship skills, and
suggest that that may be a bit harsh and what else could they do?
