Bob, you make a key point about parental involvement. Scouts will do those
things they see their parents value. If it is sports, they do sports. It
it is school, they will do school. If the parents are active and
supportive in scouting, they will stay in scouting. I have seen a direct
correlation between parental involvement and whether or not a scout attains
Eagle. There is an occasional Scout who reaches Eagle without supportive
parents but he is rare.
Kids will take part in those activities which earn praise from their
parents. It is as simple as that.
