Our Troop will have WEBELOS crossing over in April. A few months ago
they attended a Troop meeting that consisted of a parent meeting too.
Summer camp dates, fees, and etc. were discussed.
The leaders took this info back to the parents of the WEBELOS. They
inforemd the Troop leadership last night that some of the WEBELOS
families already had plans for the chosen week of the Troop's summer
camp. So they decided that they would NOT attend the camp the Troop has
chosen but will attend another camp and on another date. None of these
new Scout will attend the Troop's chosen summer camp.
This seems odd and not politically correct. The Troop chair nor COR have
a problem with this set up. These two people are married to one another.
The committee seemed to go along with this. Is this a normal practice
for one Troop to attend two entirely separate camp? They have about
eight WEBELOS so I guess they are not considered provisional.
This could be a time for these new boys to bond with the Troop and have
the experience of working with older Scouts who have attended camp
before. Also the leadership going with the cross-over WEBELOS is Pack
parents with one registered Troop leader, former Pack leader. These
people have no idea how a Troop is run or what is required.
