Good point. I have a cousin who was a "flag girl" (i.e., she carried and
twirled one of the ornamental banners) with her band; she got credit for
for Music class, but had to attend every rehearsal and event and meeting,
and even a week-long band camp every summer.
And, apparently some schools have truly Byzantine requirements for
staying on varsity teams -- I know of one where the requirement evidently
is to get an A in PE each semester but to get the A if you're on the
team, you can't miss two events a semester (whether it's January for the
baseballers or July for the basketballers).
