I have to respond to this and I know it is going to not go down well and will
likely provoke "flames", BUT.......
the boy has earned his Life - he obviously found the "enthusiasm to earn
the merit badges, and do the other things that caused his SM to sign off on
the SM Conference and the BoR to sign off on it too.
the parents are making the boy get Eagle - WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if the Adults want to fix anything, fix the parents!!!!!!
Eagle is not something desired nor appropraite for all Scouts and being
forced to do so will yield a Scout w/ a badge, not an Eagle Scout.
this attitude that all Scouts should be Eagle is wrong!!!!
all Scouts should be Scouts - that means have good citizenship,
leadership skills; and respect for other people.
they can and often do acguire these skills after they make 1st Class and
amny of these scouts are quite content to remain 1ST CLASS SCOUTS.
try to get him involved in the troop, amke sure he knows he's welcome to
go on outings w/o being responsible for anything, and don't hound him to work
at the same time, de-emphasize the parents demand taht he attain Eagle.
if he's in the OA try to get him active there - the older boys and the
more vaired things they do might rekindle his lost interest in Scouting
BUT....... the fix needs to be w/ the parents and the attitude that he
HAS to be an EAGLE
