Auntie Beans makes some good points.
It's kind of like that age old question which comes first, the chicken or the
egg. (first sheep and now chickens maybe we should be the barnyard list:-)
But seriously... I feel this is a struggle that all THOUGHTFUL Scout Leaders
face. I have a 13 yr old son just turned Star. Right now, he is gung-ho to
get his MB's so he can "GET" his Eagle. Now on one hand, I want him to
become an Eagle, but on the other I want him to be very worthy of the honor.
To be capable. At his age he hasn't had much opportunity for leadership and
the decision making it requires. Of course, he may not keep his focus. He
may not earn all the rest of the MB's he needs in a year. But when a Scout
participates in everything, it's HARD NOT to advance. So because kiddos are
so hard to motivate, I've decided to support him and be extra careful not to
