Thanks everyone for the quick response on my dilemna. Pls let me add a
couple of minor points:
1.) Our Troop maintains a file on each Scout that has their MB Blue
Card as well as a "MB Completion Report" that is widely used
by our Council (and others, I think), that lists what items
are left to be completed for a certain MB. We routinely receive these
from Summer Camps and Winter Camps we attend. The Counselor initials
these after each requirement is completed and when it is finished
the Blue Card and Report are given to our Advancement person
for recording. Completed requirements are also entered into
2.) The Counselor's 1 year stipulation is basically "being an old fart"
as one responder put it. Even though he knows that the Troop
keeps very good records as to impartials and this is how our
Troop and many others in the area handle incomplete MB's, he
doesn't want to "keep up" with the blue cards for longer than
a year. Nothing more.
BTW, this gentleman holds more than one District position
and is WB-trained, so I would think he would know better.
This gentleman and I butted heads before on his insistance that a Scout
was required to be First Class before starting a MB. I have since convinced
him otherwise, and now this! No wonder my head is starting to look like
Thanks in advance for all your responses!
Here's my original post:
Hey, folks! Just a quick question and one that I think I know the answer
to. I just wanted to poll the collective wisdom here.
Here's the scenario:
Scotty Scout starts Camping MB with Mr. Counselor. Mr. Counselor tells
Scout (and his SM) that if the MB is not completed within a year, he will
not counsel him after the year has expired.
Question: Is this kosher? Sounds as if requirements are being added.
I would like everyone's .02 on this before I have the Troop drop this
individual as a counselor (and yes, I have told said counselor that this is
adding requirements, IMHO. Am I wrong?)
