I think the minister who conducted the service was oblivious to the fact
that Jesus was not "The Lord" of all those in attendance.
I have written, adapted and presented several non-sectarian services at
District camporees, OA Ordeal weekends and Troop Campouts. I have
endeavored to use material that did not offend any religious group.
However, it does happen that sometimes we miss something and a Come, Lord
Jesus or an Allah be Praised sneaks in because the rest of message fits so
well.... I realized the faux pas as the words slipped out of my mouth
once and a second time as a young man did not want to say what was written
in the script because what was being expressed was not of his faith.
Sometimes, even with the best intents, mistakes are made. I hope that each
of us can forgive, can try to do better when it is our turn to pull
something together at the last minute and can listen so we hear the message
not the the words.
