I think I understand where both of these Scouters are coming from and there
is a lot of merit to what they both are saying. Both the unit and the
council must receive needed funds to survive and many times the council has
many more resources with which to achieve their necessary goal. Some units
have a difficult time raising the necessary funding.
Linda is also very correct in stating that without the council, the troop
can not exist or function. Many times unit scouters feel that they are a
stand alone entity and do not support the council in any way. Kind of like
biting the hand that feeds you! Hopefully donors will give where the need
is the greatest and if able support both the unit and the council. Fund
raising activities like popcorn sales and scout expos are excellent in that
both parties benefit.
