Post-Election Blues was "New OA Election Process"

There have been a lot of electrons used up in this thread
about OA elections and the negative impact not being elected
has on boys.
I have one question to pose in that regard; how different is
not being elected to OA from not being elected to leadership
I would submit there is little, if any, difference. Both
elections are usually preceded by some well-intended soul
discussing the fact the each should be judged by his own
merits and not by whether he is dorky, popular, too-smart,
not smart enough or any other single characteristic. Both
elections will result in someone being elected for the
position (or honor). Both elections will result in some boy
or other having his feelings hurt because he just knew he
would be elected. Both will have to wait a year or so until
the next election.
Yet we continue to elect our boys to leadership positions,
don't we? Aren't those the same boys that may or may not be
elected to OA.
Why haven't we gotten into a discussion of the psychological
impacts and negative implications of holding elections for
leadership positions in the same way we have regarding OA?
Could it be that some don't understand OA and aren't willing
to learn about it? Or am I missing something?
