Our troop exclusively uses the Eureka Timberline tents. We use the four man
tents for the patrols. They will comfortably hold 2 or 3 boys (often with
gear). The adults use the 6 man tents (again 2 or 3). I have used one of
the troop Eurekas for JLTC which is 9 days of camping. It is big enough for
one (for the week) with room for cot & footlocker (mine is plastic).
We issue ground cloths (plastic material -- don't know the mil) and inside
Historically, we have purchased the tents as part of our Council's Jambo
experience. We have tents from 1985, 1989, 1993 and 1997. The troop owns 20
"boy" tents and three "adult" tents. Eureka has been good about selling us
replacement parts (bones, poles, stringing kits for the poles) and even
doing the repairs inexpensively (replacing zippers, netting, etc.)
We do year around camping which can include as many as 6 months in a row
with below freezing temps at night.
