Scouts-L Mail Archive for December of 1999: Scout Led
Wed, 15 Dec 1999 06:53:00 -0500
Can't add as much as I would like to this subject YET I wanted to come
out against a long standing practice and in favor of adult association.
Against: "Adults only when the building is burning down"
Against: Colombine style adult leadership, adults after the fact
Against: "Well if the boys want to lead any old way, and not be the best =
they can be and help their fellow scouts be the best WHAT CAN WE DO"
After all a few great Scouts-Lrs told us, or implied that boys learn thi=
and of course EACH parent of a boy will LOVE this attitude.
For: Adults always with watchful ears, minds, and hearts in as close
proximity to the scouts as possible. =
For: Yes still, Scout-Led yet with intelligent adult mentors that know
Scout-Led and EACH Scout growing over time to be a better self person
and leader of peers REQUIRES adults who can Mentor them to learn
new skills for themselves and when leading others.
For: Adults who take the time to KNOW each scout, and then know
how much rope to let out with each scout and each scout grouping.
I am for Scout-Led, EACH Scout to learn to lead as good scouts and for =
adults who know that for this to happen THEY have to be present not in =
another room or in a far away corner.
YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
Mr Dave (Hawleyton, NY (Baden-Powell Council
P.S. Sorry if I can't respond timely to anyone, I am away and
the ranch is being watched by an observant adult and scouts.
