I believe that the intent of the BSA Youth Protection is to provide two deep
leadership at all activities where youth are involved,
No, the intent and purpose of Youth Protection is to prevent child sexual
abuse, or accusations of same, from occurring in all activities in the BSA
Two deep leadership is NOT the same as no one-on-one. I rue the day that some
uber-trainer in National decided to the numeral "2" in more than one place.
If they'd said from the beginning something simple and pithy like, "Youth
Protection, rule of three*," then maybe people could remember <G>. Hmmmm, I
think I'm gonna start doing that in my YP classes <G>.
*meaning, no one-on-one, meaning two adults and one youth or two youth and
Two-deep leadership, on the other hand, is to provide adult safety backup in
case of emergency, something which is more likely on a trip or outing than in
a regularly-scheduled meeting. (If you are worried about the possibility that
you may pitch over dead in the middle of the meeting and hope there's another
adult present to clean up after you, that's another matter <G>. )
