Scouts-L Mail Archive for December of 1999: permission slip followup
permission slip followup

This may have drifted from the original point about permission slips but I
would like to follow up. Well I didn't know I was a Nazi, so I'll try to
amend what I said earlier about what works for my son's troop. My mentioning
that we have rechartered for 75 years was not intended to brag but to make
the point that to stay around that long you have to have a good program, a
supply of boys and good leadership. As District Comissioner, I see a lot of
troops come and go, and this was my only point.
I also wanted to add that in our troop we set high standards and we explain
the rules to the new scouts and their parents and we haven't encountered too
much of a problem with scouts ignoring these without facing the consequences.
Most of the boys who join visit several troops. I see a lot of troops who
don't do this and then they wonder why they are folding or why they came in
45th at a District or Council competition. A troop is a team just as a
patrol is and everyone relies on the team members. I'm only saying what
works for us and has for a number of years, it may not work for you.
Please feel free to contact me personally if you want to chastise me or say
hello but I do hate seeing what is posted, reposted and reposted. I imagine
we all do.
