Scouts-L Mail Archive for December of 1999: YP--a hypothetical

Submitted for your consideration---
I'm a Webelos den leader whose son is in my den. I have an Asst WL whose
son, Willy Webelos, is also in our den. He, Asst Wl, attends every meeting.
It is the night of our meeting and we meet at a local school hall about 10
minutes from my house at 7:00pm.
At 6:30pm, I pack up my trusty den box and my slow-moving son into the car
and leave for the meeting. We are the first to arrive at the hall. I
secure the keys, come back, and open the door. The boys in the den begin
arriving at about 6:50pm. At 7:00 Willy walks in without dad and tells me,
"My dad has to quit as Asst WL. He doesn't have the time anymore." I have
no cell phone, all my parents have dropped off and departed because,
traditionally, Asst WL is always there.
What do I do?
I, as a responsible leader, have followed two-deep leadership at all outings
and even at all meetings. That is one reason why I wanted Asst WL. But
he's not here today. Now what...
You can even make me a SM, if you prefer.
