One way is to look at the meat portions.
Most recipes call for about a 1/4 pound of meat per person. This is not
always true, but it is a good measuring stick. For stews and casseroles, the
amount of meat per person drops because of the other ingredients. Therefore,
1 pound of ground beef in a chili mix is usually good for 6-8 people.
