Our January trip is traditionally a cabin-camping trip at a local Girl
Scout camp. It is a very rustic cabin - we're not living in luxury.
However, as January can be brutal here (although not always), we worry less
about having to cancel or otherwise modify the program. We review ALL the
boys who attend and work on those T, SC, and FC requirements that we can.
Even in the dead of winter, we were able to complete the evidence of ten
plants and animals requirements. There is sometimes other program as
well, but the boys all have a fair amount of free time. It's one of the
favorite trips of the boys. It helps complete some advancements, and
motivates to the boys to complete some of the other requirements that we
can't do on the weekend so they can advance at the COH in February. By
doing everyone, it doesn't single anyone out. It may not be a full BOR,
but at least we discuss their progress. We do try to make sure we have the
committee members there to do a formal BOR for those who need it.
I've only recently take over as Advancement Chair and I don't know if
they've made a practice of talking at Troop meetings to those who weren't
on the camping trip, but I'm going to try to do that this year.
