Not a shortcut, just 'Using your Resources'
Mom/SA says, "Pasta recipes: It's on the side of the box, and assumes
sauces/other additions. Make less rather than too much, and supplement w/
breads and other things, like dessert, because disposing of unwanted cold
pasta at camp is a pain.
"Meats/cheeses: 4oz, a bit bigger than the size of a deck of cards, is
one serving. Therefore, a pound (16oz) of hamburger, when added to tomato
sauce, other stuff to make sloppy joes, casserole, etc., will serve four. A
pound of sausage, cooked & accompanied by vegie or salad, bread, and drink,
will be OK for four average appetites. Maybe two or three ravenous
mid-adolescents who have been outside all day.
"Fruits, as in dessert-y sorts of things, can generally be estimated by
how many you'd eat raw if you had them in your hand.
"Cake mixes will tell you on the box."
