Scouts-L Mail Archive for December of 1999: VACATION TIME! for the Waltons
VACATION TIME! for the Waltons
Thu, 2 Dec 1999 03:28:35 -0600
(some of you will receive this posting some five or six times; I'm sorry for
the massive repeats....after the first couple of times, you can delete any
other postings with the same subject line!)
Well!! The Waltons are *finally* going to take their honeymoon!!
I will be out of the home and office from today (December 2) through
December 11th. Jessica and I will be on a cruise boat somewhere, a promise
I've kept with her despite several startups and cancellations over the past
five years. I will do my best to attempt to get to a computer every few
days, but admittedly, I've got some other projects that I will be working on
during the trip so I cannot promise a quick reply.
Many Scouters have asked me three or four questions dealing with some of the
"whiteboard projects" I've taken on to help other Scouters and to keep me
busy (you know, idle hands....) Here's a short summary of where some of
these projects stand:
*NESA webpage and information: 70 percent complete. Will be 100 percent
complete by end of December
*Blue Woolrich (tm) jacshirt: Am waiting on Carol from Woolrich to send me a
quote of how much it will cost per jacket and if they can receive clearance
from BSA to sell the blue jacshirt to us all (should be no problemo); been
waiting on the information, however, since 1 September
*Internet Scouter Patch: announcement will be made in accordance with list
guidelines via my website after the first of the year
*Leaders' Online(tm) and EagleTips(tm) updates: still progressing. No
estimate on completion of updating...
*My Binder: announcement has already been made in accordance with list
guidelines via my website
*OP-ED piece on BSA90: On hold; awaiting new stats from External
Communications Division and some other items....
*Piece for Scouters' Journal Magazine on "Where did all of the Fawns Go?"
(talking about the Silver Fawn Award, a BSA Council-level award which were
awarded to female Scouters only): Awaiting a partial listing of holders to
arrange for either telephone, email or personal interviews. If *you* hold
(or know someone who holds) the Silver Fawn Award, please have them to reach
me here or through my AOL (email@example.com) email address. The Silver
Fawn celebrates it's 30th anniversary this month.
I also need a clear photo or scan of a Silver Fawn, so if you have one and
don't mind getting the credit on the photo, please send it my way and make
sure you spell your name right!
There are two other projects which are completely commericial in nature and
in accordance with the list guidelines, I can't promote or provide
information on. Again, going to my website would catch you up on them, however.
And to the Scouter that needed the information about financing a new Troop
and asking for a donation of "seed money", that's my last posting before we
leave the house for the airport.
My apologies to all for the delays in getting several of these projects
completed in a more timely fashion. In addition to work, email reading and
answering, and the "dating and mating" with my wife, I've also had to deal
with some military reassignments and the usual "We want to send you here"
"No, we've changed our minds...you're going to be sent over there" "No,
ignore that; we're sending you to the first place" stuff that normally
happens about this time of year.
Thanks for your patience, and a special thanks to Jessica for her love and
patience while I spent half the night updating and insuring that the major
"outstanding projects" are complete and one less worry I'll have while on
I will try to enjoy myself. I've never been on a cruise ship before and
although I've had many people to say "You'll LOVE IT!", I'm still concerned
about it. All I know is that my wife is looking very much forward to this,
and I'll try to be nice and make her feel like the queen I feel she is!
(yeah, I know....*gag me*...I had to practice. Just think, guys: five days
of saying stuff like that!! *heheheeheheheehee*)
