Why does any council charge more for the same site to an out of council unit
verses an in council unit? I just had a run in with a council who wanted to
charge 150% of the normal fee just because we are out of council. Does it
cost the camp 50% more to host my unit? If so what is it that I am paying the
extra amount for? They tell me they must charge this to cover their costs.
What cost? No one could answer that one. Are we not all Scouts? Aren't we
doing this for the boy's? It seems to me that charging more for the same site
to an out of council unit is taking unfair advantage of the out council
Suffolk County Council does not charge an out of council troop a different
price than an in council troop, but I can see where there might have a case
for a "slight" charge. It might be used to cover the "blanket" camp
liability insurance premium that is sometimes absorbed by the local council
or even some other charges when the camp operates at a deficit. However,
having as many troops attend as possible will help to minimize the loss.
