I hope that Joe researches PETA a bit deeper, so that he can factually inform his
Scouts about the organization, its goals, and its methods. Since some of their
members have been known to throw paint on people who happened to be wearing fur items,
it could be something that kids of Scout age might be interested in hearing about, and
it's a useful way to teach about how extremism can harm people in the most unexpected
ways. (As a meat department manager, he may even receive a visit from them at work,
There are other organizations that follow along the path that PETA has chosen.
Activities of the members of more than one similar organization have included such
things as raiding mink farms to free the mink...who promptly go out and starve, not
knowing how to feed themselves. They also raid research laboratories, destroying
property and the results of medical research. (We pay for that one with delays in
medication releases and increased cost of all medications.) Recently, some
researchers have been getting letters with razors in them.
